TNCC receives $1.99 million DOL grant to expand manufacturing pipeline
Thomas Nelson Community College received it’s second grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to expand industrial training for the manufacturing field in under five years. The first grant of $1.95 million came in April 2005 to create an employment pipeline in advanced manufacturing. The new grant of $1.99 million will allow TNCC to certify 335 workers in advanced manufacturing over three years.
Additionally, grant money will be used towards instruction in the classroom, lab and work-based experiences. Partners in the grant, the Virginia Manufacturers Association and the Fabricators and Manufacturing Association International, will provide industry insight and program guidance.
Since receiving its first grant in 2005, TNCC has responded to the high, regional demand for skilled manufacturing employees by placing 4,100 workers in advanced manufacturing jobs.
