Student: Pay it forward

Shana Morris, JTCC nursing student

Hi, my name is Shana Morris.  I am currently a nursing student at John Tyler Community College and currently employed with HCA hospitals as a nurse tech.

I started JTCC in January 2008 in pursuit of my nursing degree. The question was “How would I pay for school and still be able to be a full time student?”

The support that JTCC has received from local and state government and other organizations allowed for grants and scholarships to help me and many others attain this goal. I am in my third semester and plan on graduating in December 2011 as a Registered Nurse.

The experience at the General Assembly was definitely a life-changing experience.  Knowing that the community college sources of revenue are from the state and student tuition, it was important for me thank those individuals that are responsible for allowing JTCC to acquire funds to allow students the opportunity to attend college and fulfill their dreams. The trip to the General Assembly allowed me to share my story and hopefully make a pathway for future students as well.

I will never be able to totally pay back JTCC for the impact the college has had on my life and my future, so I am trying to pay it forward with the tools and experiences I have received during my journey. Thank you again for allowing me this opportunity.
