John Tyler Community College Student is Accomplishing so Much

I had the opportunity to visit the 2013 General Assembly on two occasions and both of them, unique in their own way, were informative and exciting.

I remember not knowing what to expect the first time around; I was nervous and wasn’t exactly sure what I was going to say, but the John Tyler Community College coordinators and our current President (Dr. Smith) made me feel comfortable and at ease.   It also helped that the delegates and senators were interested in what we had to say and they seemed genuinely pleased to know in what ways John Tyler was benefiting our community.

I know the word General Assembly alone sounds a bit boring, but trust me you’ll be in awe just like I was.

Since being at John Tyler, I have been able to experience so many things that I may not have had the opportunity to otherwise.  Who would have thought that a single parent of three, a full-time employee and full/part-time student could accomplish so much at a community college?  But, I have.

I have been fortunate to be a part of such a great school where the faculty and staff care about your progress and want the best for each of their students.  My advice to any student would be to work hard and get to know your professors.  They are the ones who nominate students to attend different things.

Who knows, you may be on the next trip to the 2014 General Assembly.  It’s not an opportunity you want to miss!!
