Zach Betterton — Central Virginia Community College
In 2011, I decided to go to Central Virginia Community College because I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I was an “OK” student in high school but nothing too special. I knew I wasn’t going to be like some of my friends who were going to Virginia Tech or University of Virginia on a full scholarship. So CVCC was the beginning of my path through college.
While at CVCC I noticed I had a change of pace and found myself determined to succeed.
The manageable class sizes and its affordability have been key for me. Since I started at CVCC in the fall of 2011 I have maintained a 4.0 GPA. One of the things I like most about community college is that the teachers and faculty have never turned away a question of mine. The atmosphere at Central Virginia has been encouraging in all aspects. Because of this, I am now head Student Ambassador, Student Government Association Treasurer and also a Phi-Theta-Kappa Top Ten Virginia Scholar.
I am currently on track to graduate this semester and will transfer to Lynchburg College next Fall. There I will major in Physics, and minor in Education so I can eventually teach high school. I didn’t exactly leave high school prepared for college but I can definitely say I’m leaving CVCC prepared for my future.
