60 students begin "Every Day is Community College Day"

TCC
Delegations of students from Tidewater Community College’s Virginia Beach Campus, from Northern Virginia’s Loudoun Campus, and from Piedmont Virginia and Eastern Shore Community Colleges launched the 2010 “Every Day is Community College Day” events on Thursday.
In all, nearly 60 were present on this second day of the General Assembly Session to learn about Virginia government and celebrate their community college experience – 40 of them from TCC’s Virginia Beach Campus with Provost Mike Summers.
Wearing community college lanyards, they braved the cold and the early morning wake-up calls, organized into smaller groups and set off to the General Assembly building.

NVCC-Loudoun
Retired Loudoun Provost Tony Tardd came out of his recent retirement to accompany his campus’ students to the General Assembly one more time.
Students are encouraged to comment on their experience, and to contribute blog posts (email shayden@vccs.edu).

This is a great program!
Students enjoy being part of the process.
I attended the program on behalf of the Loudoun-NVCC campus. I was honored to be selected to share my story with the legislators. Higher education would not be an option for me if it weren’t for community colleges.
Due to my personal experiences, I feel very strongly about the system and to see that the senators and delegates believe in it and support it made sharing our viewpoints that much easier. But we weren’t the only ones sharing stories! Delegate “Tag” (Thomas Greason (32nd)) informed us that his wife had actually attended the Annandale NVCC campus. Each meeting with the representatives was exciting!
I want to thank everyone involved for giving us this opportunity!
